I have wrangled her into allowing me to start this campaign, asking for financial donations. If you have the desire to extend a loan, that is most welcome.
She has agreed to let me do this because I told her that the community will respond and not one of them will judge. Life is a challenge.
Chris and I are giving her an initial loan of $5000.00 and anything that you can donate will be more than gratefully received by Liz.
Our Lizzie, a consummate worker, uber reliable, has had some extreme life experiences. She is also realistic and always owns where she is. You may know her early story of abuse, and you may also know she has wrangled all of her challenges while contributing to Chicago theatre by building The Raven Theatre, where she grew into the Jeff Award winning actress she is today: Best Actress and Best Ensemble, Streetcar; Best Supporting, Golden Boy; Best Ensemble, You Can’t Take it With You (about which she jokes….darkly humorous and apropos.)
She gave financial support generously to new found half-sisters and friends. She took what turned out to be very poor financial advice from her Canadian family, these and other life and economic events including the dissolving of a business for which she wrote and directed beautiful scenes to teach diversity, have led her to this point where she is in danger of losing the legacy her mom left her, the home she purchased with what she kept from her biological mom’s estate after Lizzie nursed her through hospice for cancer. On top of this terrifying situation, she has to unexpectedly put her beloved kitty Violet down tomorrow.
For the past few years Lizzie has been working multiple jobs, navigating projects that were pulled before she could reap the benefits and faced some hardships that all contributed to this outcome.
Most of us have been in some shaky situation, cobbling together income as we could. At one point in Chicago, I had seven jobs along with rehearsals in the evening. It was what we did. We all lived with more roommates than there were bedrooms, we all ate some version of the amazing dollar-a-scoop at the absolutely questionable Chinese food at Cheng’s Friend Chicken under the El.
I am grateful I have such a different life now, and that Chris and I have the ability to help Lizzie.
After what Chris and I are contributing in the form of a $5000.00 loan to be paid when possible, I am committed to help her raise $6500.00.
She is asking what family she has, and other resources in her life. This campaign is a part of my contribution. Please contact me immediately if you have any questions, ideas or inspirations.
